Welcome to the Stepping Stone School located at 8121 Shoal Creek in North Central Austin. It is conveniently located just off Mopac Expressway and near Mopac’s intersection with Hwy 183 and I-35. It can be accessed off the Anderson Lane or Steck exits of Mopac. This school is situated near the Crestview, Brentwood, Allandale, Great Hills and North Shoal Creek neighborhoods along with the Burnet Road Corridor redevelopment project. Many young families are revitalizing these neighborhoods and find this campus easy to drop off and pick up from.
The large atrium provides a place for family gatherings or for our enrichment programs which include Dance Discovery, Soccer Shots, Hip Hop Dance, Coding, Opus One Music, Flippers Gymnastics and Sports Adventure. The campus has an in-ground swimming pool where swimming lessons are provided each summer and four large tree-shaded, age-appropriate playgrounds covered in artifical turf the children find fun and engaging. All outdoor areas are securely fenced with access available only through the building.
This campus is home to our innovative program called The Atelier™ which is comprised of three areas of focus; the Creative Art Gallery, Character Role Models, and the Architecture Studio. The Atelier is overseen by a seasoned artistic and creative educator who is available to guide the children while fostering their imagination to take their learning to the next level. Learn more.

We have been very impressed with our experience with Stepping Stone. We had to suddenly leave our previous daycare when it shut down and my husband and I were nervous about picking a new school for our 14-month-old during the Covid-times this past June. Covid 19 - First off, Covid-stuff. As long as we have been attending, parents have not been allowed in the building. Parents all are required to wear masks at drop off and observe the 6-ft social distancing rules. Walking children sanitize their shoes as soon as they come in the main entrance. All teachers and faculty have been wearing masks every time we have been at the school. There is a lot to be nervous about during these times and I feel confident that the school is taking precautions to stay as clean as possible. In the time we have been at the school, there has been one person who tested positive for Covid and the entire school was notified and kids who came in contact with the person who tested positive were notified directly by the director. I should add that my kid was not in direct contact with the person, but I felt satisfied in how the school communicated this information. Leadership - From the get-go we have been impressed, especially with the school's director, Misti. Misti took us on a virtual tour of the school before we enrolled and has always made herself available for questions and feedback through phone and email. Parent communication - The school uses an app to send pictures and we usually get one to two per day. The school does not have cameras that they make available for parents to view like some daycares do. When an incident occurs in the classroom, such as biting, an incident report is sent home noting what happened. I've been really happy with the level of communication from both the director as well as the teachers. Overall - This is our second daycare to send our now 19-month-old son to. Stepping Stone outperforms the previous school we went to in many regards. My son loves the school and comes home learning new things all the time. He's learned a lot of sign language at the school as well as many nursery rhymes that all sound like Old Mcdonald mixed with Twinkle Twinkle. I think that the best illustration I can leave with is the following: every morning, I say "are you ready to go to school?" and my son runs at the door yelling "school! school! school!" This is all very cute, but sometimes on a quiet Sunday, my son will grab his backpack and run at the door, declaring "school, school, school!" I guess I know where he wants to be!
Stepping Stone really is as good as it gets! My son has been attending since he was 3 months and I could not recommend them more. His teachers Ms. Angelica and Ms. Daima are so sweet and nurturing and take the best care of my baby. They really go the extra mile to make sure he gets the best care and I can tell he's really thriving developmentally because of it. He's always happy and has the biggest smile on his face every time I drop him off. They use an app (Tadpoles) to send you updates with pictures and at the end of the day they send you a report of all feedings, diaper changes, and naps. The whole campus is extremely clean and the Principal, Misti, is so great and makes sure they all operate on a very well-organized schedule and stick to all necessary protocol. I couldn't recommend this school more for kids of ANY age.
As a new mom, wanting to go back to work, I had a lot of guilt sending her to daycare instead of staying home. Our daughter started at Stepping Stone - Shoal Creek when she was three months old and at the beginning, I cried everytime I dropped her off. It was all the guilt I placed on myself. Quickly, they eased it and I knew we had made the right choice for our family. I know our daughter is loved by all of her teachers and that they have her best interest at heart. I trust the decisions they make and often times, ask her teachers for advice on various stages of life (teething, eating solids, napping, etc.). The facility is always clean, ratios are constantly met and safety is their main concern. We could not be happier with the decision we made...and I am happy to report - I don't cry anymore. :)
Mysti and the care providers at Stepping Stone - Shoal Creek are some of the best around. We felt at home right away and I could tell the teachers really cared about my infant. It was evident the care providers really love what they do. I appreciated that they sent pictures throughout the day, so I knew how my little one ways doing. Could not be more happy!
I cannot begin to say enough kind words about Misti, Chelsea and all of the staff at the Shoal Creek location. They all went above and beyond to ensure that my family felt loved, safe and happy. We were very sad to leave the school but we will for sure attend if we are ever in that location again.
I cannot say enough great things about this school. My oldest has been going here for almost 2 years and BEGS me to bring her to school so she can learn and play with her friends. Her teachers and staff from infancy to toddler have been incredible; always so kind, welcoming, understanding and receptive to notes or comments about my kids. I rarely (if ever) worry about my girls while they're at school because I know their care givers are experienced and excel to make each day amazing. I love the curriculum (yes, even for infants!), full service healthy food calendar (Praise God I don't have to make lunches and snacks every day), dual language, special guests (like a guitar player, sports coach, swim or water play days, etc.), and the holiday parties/lunches/events... the list continues. For review's sake, I also love the layout of this school compared to a few others we toured. The classrooms all have separate access to an age-appropriate outdoor play area, so there is lots of play time and few accidents. :) You'll likely tour with Ms Misti or Ms Chelsea and you're in great hands with either!
